The New Old Genre

Living in a country where you can only watch very few blockbuster type movies in theatres and the only other choice being bad pirated copies of some movies, availability depending on the whims of the dvd suppliers, I have come up with a solution that works really well for me.

Go to apple.com, downloads, and watch the trailers in HD. Even the terrible ones seem to be very good. So I propose that a new genre of movies should be universally acknowledged, which is the two minute movie. They should have awards like the oscars for them in various categories, although the voice over seems to be done by the same guy. I am sure it will be very exciting.

No Country for Old Men

I haven't seen all of Coen Brothers' movies, didn't like some of them, and loved the rest. This movie just blew me away. I was lucky to have seen it without any pre-conceived bias, had no clue what it was about. Flipping through the video-on-demand menu, I just clicked on it. The title wasn't alluring, I will give you that.

The scenery grabs your attention with the wide open vistas of the American southwest. And then the music, or rather the lack of it (I subsequently read that there was only about sixteen minutes worth in the film). Made in the best of film noir tradition, it does not disappoint. Some things are incredible, but it never insults your intelligence.

You will either hate it or love it, but you won't be indifferent. And I will end my review right there.
